Alan Lynch – The Author

Hello! I am the  ”Part P Doctor” aka Alan Lynch. Welcome to my website! I have  been involved in the electrical installation industry since leaving school in 1981. I commenced and completed a fully indentured apprenticeship with one of the former regional electricity boards gaining full distinctions in my electrical studies. I received the 1984 “Outstanding academic achievement award” from my local technical college and also the 1985 “Apprentice of the year award” from my employer.

In subsequent years I have worked across the UK and abroad on most types of installations. I have worked as an employee and on a self employed basis.

Since 2003 I have been involved in teaching, delivering City & Guilds short courses: 2377, 2391, 2382, 2391-02 (2400) as well as NICEIC and EAL domestic installer courses in the private sector.

Around 2006 I then started at my local college as a part-time electrical tutor, working with adult learners as well as the youngsters. Here I steer students towards City & Guilds 2330 level 2 and 3.

It was around 2005, with the introduction of “Part P” of the building regulations that I decided to write my angle on the whole thing, as domestic electrical work became a legalised controlled service. After lots of drafts, the book was finally printed off in June 2007.

After all the positive things people had to say about it, that year was topped off by the receiving of a coveted “Ellie” award at the Electrical Times ceremony in London.

2008 and 09 has been busy for me with the arrival of the new 17th Edition regulations.  All the country’s tutors have been busy scurrying around inside it to get to the bottom of all the mysteries it hides! Of course that then led to a new Part P Doctor book and this new site. The site has existed for quite a while as a “blog” and this is still there.

So then as of now I am involved in part-time teaching, sparking and writing! Oh and I nearly forgot, I am studying at University for a qualification in teaching as well……

On a personal level I am married to the long-suffering Marie and four girls in tow! My interests are motorcycling on my beloved Honda Goldwing and driving my new old Jaguar. I also like a bit of DIY and reading…
